Fallen Soldier Gets Medal of Honor

President Bush on Monday presented the nation's highest military award to a 19-year-old soldier who died saving the lives of four comrades in Iraq by jumping on a grenade tossed into their military vehicle.

The honored soldier, Army Pfc. Ross McGinnis, "gave all for his country," the president said somberly.

"No one outside this man's family can know the true weight of their loss. But in words spoken long ago, we are told how to measure the kind of devotion that Ross McGinnis showed on his last day: 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.'"

The president spoke in the East Room at a ceremony attended by Vice President Dick Cheney, prior recipients of the Medal of Honor, military leaders, McGinnis' parents, Tom and Romayne, and his two sisters, Becky and Katie. The four soldiers protected by McGinnis' actions were all in attendance.

McGinnis was in the gunner's hatch of a Humvee on Dec. 4, 2006, on a patrol in Iraq, when a grenade sailed past him and into the vehicle where the four other soldiers sat. He shouted a warning, then jumped on the grenade while it was lodged near the vehicle's radio.

"By that split-second decision, Private McGinnis lost his own life, and he saved his comrades," Bush said.

McGinnis grew up in the rural town of Knox, Pa., about 60 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

He enlisted in the Army after some struggles in school. Friends and family say they were watching him transform into a man.

Bush called him a regular guy, a dependable friend with a big heart and a carefree spirit. He also had a robust sense of humor, as was known as the only one in boot camp who could make his drill sergeant laugh, the president said.

As a military aide read the formal citation of McGinnis' honor, Bush gave the late soldier's mom a smile. When the audience rose and offered an ovation, Bush gave Mrs. McGinnis a kiss on the cheek and shook her husband's hand.

The president said it was a high privilege for him to present the Medal of Honor, recognizing valor beyond anything that duty could require.

"May the deep respect of our whole nation be a comfort to the family of this fallen soldier," Bush said. "May God always watch over the country he served, and keep us ever grateful for the life of Ross Andrew McGinnis."

Rest in Peace, My brother Ross, and thank you for your service!

Australia Ends Iraq Combat Operations

This story from Fox News this morning

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,361248,00.html

Having served in Iraq myself, I know firsthand the Aussie troops are committed allies in the war on terrorism. As sad as it is to see them leave for strictly political reasons, their service in Iraq is appreciated.

Thank you mates, for your service, and for helping to make Iraq a better place!

My Memorial Day weekend

Wow, what a memorial Day weekend I had!

Saturday, I attended 2 Memorial Day events. At 8:00 AM there was a short ceremony at the local cemetery in my town. We had a prayer led by my town’s director of veteran’s services, then myself and a brother Iraq war vet from my town were invited to lay a wreath by a small veterans memorial. The local American legion post then did a rifle volley, Taps was played, and the ceremony was concluded. The brother Iraq war vet I laid the wreath with is Staff Sgt Heath Hobson. SSG Hobson was injured by an IED early in 2007. He spent several months at Walter Reed healing there, and he continues his recovery at home.

At 9:45 we had a flag raising and recited the Pledge of Allegiance at our town’s Civil War and 9/11 monuments, the gathering point for the town’s Memorial Day parade, and at 10:00 AM the parade stepped off. I marched with 2 other veterans, one from WWII, and a brother Iraq war vet who’s currently preparing to deploy to Afghanistan in a few months. The brother vets I marched with were Robert Green (I believe that’s his name), a WWII Vet who still walks the entire parade route every year, even though he’s in his 80’s. The other is CPT Scott Langolier, who serves with the Vermont National Guard. He’s from the nearby town of Wrentham, and his father-in-law is a current member of our town’s Board of Selectmen. CPT Langolier also was the Vet who raised the flag right before the parade started. Marching behind us with some of his buddies from his American Legion post was Glenn Mott, another brother Iraq war vet who also served in the Mass National Guard. Glenn is a Vet of both Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The parade concluded at our towns Veterans park where a ceremony and speeches were conducted. The ceremony was marred only by the presence of my anti-military congressman, jim mcgovern of Massachusetts. I don’t know what it is about my town; this is the 2nd year in a row he’s come to our town’s memorial day parade, although this year he did stand after a speech by a brother Iraq war vet, which is more than what he did last year! Anyway, except for my anti-military congressman’s speech, the speeches were good and honest. The ceremony concluded with a rifle volley by the local American Legion post and the playing of Taps.

Sunday morning an American Legion post that Glenn Mott belongs to held a breakfast for all veterans, so I went there after church. Nothing fancy, but it was an opportunity to catch up with Glenn and swap a few war stories in the process!

And finally this morning, I went to 8:00 Mass at my church so that I could pray specifically for the souls of all my fallen brothers and sisters. We concluded Mass by singing "God Bless America" And at 3:00 PM this afternoon, as asked by our President, I paused for a moment of silence.

To all my fallen Brothers and Sisters, rest in peace, and my you be welcomed by the saints and angels to tht special place in heaven reserved just for you!

So what did you do this past weekend to honor my fallen brothers and sisters?

Armed Forces Day

Yesterday was Armed Foeces Day, and I was recently sent an invitation to a Veterans picnic held in Waltham, MA, yesterday. I had a wonderful time; links up with a few buddies, collected LOTS of literature from the VA and all the various public and private agencies that work with the VA in  providing services for veterans.

The only black spot on this day; a small group of TRAITORS from the local chapter of an anti-military group called the iraq "veterans" against the war, showed up as well, promoting their hate-filled, anti-military agenda by wearing black rags they call t-shirts with their logo on them. Fortunately, thses low-life's pretty mych kept to themselves because they know that REAL veterans want nothing to do with them!  This is the same gutless, hate-filled, anti-military extremist organization that put on "winter soldier 2" back in March of this year, in which the small membership of the ivaw basicly got together in a circle jerk and swapped fairy tales with each other, while REAL Americans were outside counter-protesting their circle jerk, which in the end was pretty much a dud!

If they had the balls to show up at a Veterans event where they know there would be REAL Veteans present, then WHERE are those same balls when they start crying about all the so-called "atrocities" they claim to have seen when they were in the war zone of Iraq? Why don't they have the balls to tell the Pentagon????? They'll tell the anti-military news media, but not the Pentagon; WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?????

Anyway, I'll have more to say on this tonight on my BTR show at 8:00 PM EST, www.blogtalkradio.com/icradio

Living up to my blog name

I've said before that in general, conservatives are more tolerant of me and my Independent, open-minded views that liberals, but tonight I actually pissed off a conservative.

Until tonight I belonged to a conservtive Yahoo group, but apparently my open-mindedness and my ability to see things that liberals and conservatives don't see, pissed off one of the moderators of this group, so he kicked me out!

Now I was sent an invitation to join this group a few months back, and I told the inviter UP FRONT that I'm NOT a conservative. I was still invited to join ANYWAY, and now that one of the moderators can't handle my independent, non-politically correct views, they kick me out!

Can we say "HYPOCRISY" here???????????????????????

Oh well, THEIR LOSS!!!!

California imitating Massachusetts

Well, it looks like the California "supreme" court also has 4 satanists sitting on it, just like the MA "supreme" judicial court does :o(

4 satanists who sit on the California "supreme" court decided tody that spit-swapping gay blades ought to have the "right" to get "married"...TO EACH OTHER, just like they do here in MA!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the story from Fox News web site;

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,355836,00.html

Well, don't be surprised if California gets hit with the biggest earthquake in world history and California drops into the ocean.....with SF and berkly going first!!!!!

For the record, I do NOT hate gays!

Recent Happenings

Last night (Monday) myself and Ron Villareale from the Gathering of Eagles went to a Meet-and-Greet in Cambridge, MA, put on by the Massachusetts Chapter of Vets For Freedom and the local Young Republicans Club. We got to meet some great folks to include the current Chapter Director, Trip Bellard. Of course, being both war veterans, we NATURALLY had to swap some war stories with each other, evan though compared to Trip's war stories, mine are boring! Having a desk job and eating three squares a day pales in comparison to actually going out and

We also had a visit from one of the republican candidates for US Senate from Massachusetts visit and speak with us; Jim Ogonowski. Jim is an Air Force veteran himself, and he's one of two republicans seeking to send kerry packing come Novenber!

And since I mentioned Jim Ogonowski, he'll be my guest this coming Sunday, May 11th, on Independently Correct Radio; check it out.
